Both the majesty and the blindness of this video are staggering. The majesty speaks for itself. The blindness is in attributing the sense of awe to an evolutionarily-implanted instinct solely advantageous for survival. In other words, according to these guys, the awe you feel is just an ‘illusion.’ For all their heady, flowery language, the implication is that the sense of cosmic significance is merely an accident of nature implanted in you for your survival. Christianity sees it, rather, as a ‘message.’ You decide which is a better read on reality.
I once read in a dissertation dedication “To our Creator, who has allowed us to walk the path with others who believe there are patterns to life, and the patterns exist for us to discover because He has set them there for us to find”. Created for awe? Created to worship the one who makes things awesome … everyday when I see his creation!
