Summit Orphan Care

The past year has been an incredible year for the Summit as we have sought to deepen our understanding as well as act on the Biblical mandate to care for orphans. Just as Pastor J.D. shared beginning about a year and a half ago, we as a church have a responsibility to reach out to five specific groups in our community (H.O.P.U.D.), orphans being one of them. Furthermore, when we understand the doctrine of adoption, we more fully understand the Gospel, as we see that we were first adopted into the family of God and given His identity and inheritance.
For me, as one of the ministry leaders, it has been a privilege to work alongside others who are passionate about supporting our church as we try to figure this whole thing out. Even as my wife and I wait to bring our children home from Ethiopia in the coming months or year, we are thrilled that as I write this, we have friends currently traveling to the other side of the world to meet and bring their children home. In fact, one of those couples was compelled to adopt only after hearing last summer’s preaching series “Fatherless.”
We have seen couples enter into the process of becoming foster parents, college students telling us of their passion to help in whatever way possible, plans for mission trips to care for orphans, generous donations to the Summit Adoption Fund, and other churches from around the country emailing us to network (and we are by no means experts!). In short, God is moving!
This coming weekend we have the privilege of hosting Dr. Russell Moore, author of Adopted for Life, who will be preaching at Summit. We then have an opportunity to update anyone interested at our next orphan care meeting on June 28. Please join us in these important events in the life of Summit as God deepens our understanding of the Gospel and how we will demonstrate that by our care for the fatherless!

Will he be preaching at the Saturday evening service?
