A Missions Conference Like You’ve Never Heard Of

My friend, Bob Roberts, is at it again… thinking so far outside the box that most of us can’t decide if he’s crazy or brilliant. Probably both. I love this man, and his church, and his heart to love and befriend the Muslim world.

Bob’s church, Northwood Church, in Keller, TX, is doing a “Global Faith Forum,” in which rather than “talking amongst ourselves about them,” they are going to “talk with them about ourselves.” Bob has a number of WORLD leaders… Prince Turki of Saudi Arabia, representatives of the State Departments and Muslim republics around the world, etc at his church to talk about the needs of people around the world and how the church can be instrumental in meeting them.

Bob is not shy at all about what he believes. He is crystal clear on the fact that there is salvation only in Jesus, it’s just that he believes that we can make that message most understandable by standing side by side with people in their pain and need rather than by preaching about them to ourselves. He gives a great word picture on this… rather than start with the head, and try to get to theĀ  heart, we should start with the hand (serving together with Muslims, etc to meet needs of Muslims), which will win us into their heart, which will allow us the opportunity to discuss things with the head (about issues of disagreement in faith, etc).

Should be an historic, and very exciting event. The Summit Church will be represented. I hope you’ll come, too!
